If you are experiencing spine pain or discomfort, you aren’t alone. This highly common ailment, often caused by irritation, influenced by trauma, poor posture, disc disease, osteoarthritis, or other degenerative diseases. If your pain hasn’t resolved, schedule an evaluation if your back pain:
- Causes headache, numbness or tingling
- Radiates into your shoulders, arms or fingers
- Lasts for more than a few weeks
Elbow pain is often caused by sports or activities that require repetitive movement of the hand, wrist or arm. If you have an obvious deformity or bone protrusion, seek emergency treatment. Give Step & Spine Physical Therapy a call if you:
- Have swelling or bruising around the joint
- Have severe pain or increasing redness and/or swelling
- Pain doesn’t improve with home care (rest, ice, compression, elevation).
The shoulder is responsible for a lot of repetitive motion in our daily lives. It has a tremendous degree of freedom. Because of these, and its large range of motion, the shoulder is highly susceptible to trauma or overuse. The main causes of shoulder pain include:
- Rotator Cuff Tears
- Bicep Tears
- Labrum Tears
If your shoulder pain is intense or persists, schedule an appointment for an evaluation. An evaluation will help to determine the cause of the pain and the proper treatment for it.
Hip pain doesn’t just happen with age. Factors such as developmental or degenerative conditions, as well as injuries like falls, can cause hip pain. Major contributors include a change in activity levels, genetic factors and hormones, high impact sports, falling, or excessive sitting. Address hip problems early before they worsen. Schedule an appointment for an evaluation if your hip pain is causing you to have difficulty performing normal tasks, routine activities or interrupting your sleep.
Made of 19 hand bones and 8 carpal bones, the hands and the wrist are made to move. When they are healthy, this articulation is smooth and painless.Hand and wrist pain is often caused by:
- Repetitive motion injuries (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)
- Trigger finger
- Cervical spine influence
While wrist pain will often go away without treatment, if you experience consistent pain and swelling that lasts longer than a few days or worsens, schedule an appointment for an evaluation.
Knee pain is often caused by issues in other parts of the body, such as a person’s gait, stance, muscle tightness or muscle weakness. Best treated early before the pain becomes a chronic problem, schedule an evaluation if you:
- Have extensive swelling or stiffness
- Cannot extend or bend your knee
- Have weakness or instability
- Cannot put weight on your knee
- Have knee pain when you ride your bicycle
- Hurt when you run, walk or play
The feet and ankles support the entire body. As such, they are frequently subject to injury. Ankle pain is often caused by a sprain or sports-related injury. Sprained ankles that receive treatment recover faster and with less risk of future injury. If you sprain your ankle, schedule an appointment with your Physical Therapist as soon as you can.Inflammation is another cause for pain in the foot and ankle. Schedule an evaluation if:
- Swelling lasts longer than a few days
- Pain lasts longer than a few days
- You cannot put weight on your foot
- You have burning pain, numbness or tingling
- You need advice on footwear
TTrauma, poor posture and degenerative diseases such as repeated/overuse movements, or osteoarthritis are the primary causes for neck pain. Often the pain will resolve on its own. Schedule an appointment if your neck pain:
- Persists for more than a few weeks
- Radiates into your shoulder(s), arm(s), or fingers
- Causes numbness, tingling or a headache
- Disrupts your sleep
- Limits your daily activities
- Interrupts your work routine
